Daydreams

I bought the old sled (above) yesterday at an estate sale. It was a steal that I could not pass up! I was dreaming of all the possibilities it held....

I Was Gone Too Long!

Apparently, my computer decided I didn't deserve to blog for several weeks because it locked me out of Blogspot!  Weird...  FINALLY, today I was able to get back on. Yay!!!!!!!

So! I finally finished the little vanity bench that I had started working on in my previous post. I won about 15 antique grain sacks at auction about a month ago. When I flipped them inside out to wash them, I discovered that the graphics had been hiding inside. Most of them had great wording and pictures on them, so I decided to sacrifice one for the team. The blue-grey paint I used on the wood brings out the single blue stripe on the grain sack. I love the look of the bench now, but it has to go! My poor house is too crammed to accept even one more piece of furniture, no matter how compact! It is listed in my Etsy shop. If you are in the Dallas area, you can pick it up and save yourself the shipping costs :)

        

In the Works

I always have three or four projects in the works, and I always forget to document them. Bad, bad blogger!! Heck, I haven't even updated my little blog since MARCH!! But, since I have a spare moment, I am making myself sit down at the computer and record this for prosperity. Because I know that all four of you that read this are just dying to know what I am working on at the moment! Hahaha!



I bought this little sitting stool at an estate sale last month, and it has been sitting neglected on a pile of old dresser drawers since. Yesterday, I waded through the mess that is my garage and dug it out. First I sanded it down because the last person who painted it a boring enamel white let the paint run in thick drips down the legs. Poor thing. Then I painted it cream as a base coat and painted a smoky, pale blue second coat  over that. Here is what it looks like so far:

I removed the 1982 floral covered top and it will soon sport one of these grain sack beauties that I bought at auction over the weekend. (Probably the A sack)

I will post a pic of the final product when it is finished! Can't wait!! It will probably be in my bedroom until the Dallas Flea in September. I am going to have my first real booth!! I feel like such a hot shot :)

Brown Baggin' It

There are times when I get a little obsessed and intensely focused on one thing.

Last night I stayed up until 1am looking at Ebay and Etsy. My primary focus: brown bags. Yep. Brown bags. Not just plain bags, though. Old stock. Vintage, almost extinct, decorative bags from stores/brands long gone.

If I owned a retail store, I would buy a huge lot of old stock brown bags to wrap customers' purchases in.

As it was, I ended up buying these little cuties because (a) we may have a Halloween party again this year, (b) they were CHEAP, and most importantly (c) I have zero self-control.

Apparently, a lady in Indiana does, too, because as I was writing this post, she bought it on Etsy!!

Flighty

I have been so busy this year between traveling for work and keeping up with my family.

I am going to try to keep up with the blog from here on out....

I have been getting a lot of orders for my BIRD IN A CAGE light fixtures lately. It's exciting! I

love making them, and trying new ideas out on each new endeavor. Last week, I made a mobile version of the light fixture (minus the light!) for a woman in Virginia who is decorating her

newborn's nursery in a bird theme. Right up my alley!

And as soon as I finished that one, I had a man in Ohio who ordered the three-light version. He is surprising his family with it by having it installed in their playroom before his wife and daughter return home next week. I am furiously putting the finishing touches on it tonight so that it is ready to mail first thing tomorrow morning!

knots and knobs

About a month ago, I bought a 60" long piece of knotty pine wood that had once been a wall from a barn in Kansas. It had Great Stuff filling the knots and it was pretty ugly.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for.

We loaded it into the backseat of my little sedan, along with my daughter. The ends of the board hung out of both windows, and my poor teenager had only a few inches of wiggle room for the next 45 minutes while we drove to Paris to visit my folks.

It sat in my dad's shop for a month.

Over the next month, I pieced together some old, oval doorknobs and assorted backplates. I Gorilla-glued these together. Then, I screwed them all onto the board. After attaching some hangers to the back and digging out the foam insulation that was clogging up all those beautiful holes, I was ready to hang my new headboard in our bedroom.

Total cost: $26.

I love it!
